Software high availability for fire departments
Systel is a Systems Integrator specializing in call center solutions for emergency services and in particular for fire departments. Systel develops and deploys an application suite used to manage an emergency call center (the emergency call number in France is 18, equivalent to 911 in the US, 999 in the UK and 112 in other European countries).
As this application suite is used by firemen in call centers, it must be available around the clock and resistant to software and hardware failures.
Says Christophe Renoud, sales manager at Systel: "Systel is Evidian’s partner for the software-only high-availability solution, SafeHA. Today, several fire-control centers are run with the Systel solution and with SafeHA high availability. Systel chose SafeHA for two reasons: it is easy to deploy on standard hardware without shared disks. And, since SafeHA is a multi-platform solution, Systel can deploy high availability both in the Windows version of its application suite and in the Linux version.”
For its infrastructure applications
A major player in the banking sector Natixis needed to implement high availability not only for its large banking databases but also for the peripheral applications. The file transfer gateways, in particular, must be available 24 hours a day.
Natixis chose to use the SafeHA software-only clustering solution for its file transfer gateways, whereas hardware clustering solutions are used for the banking databases. Natixis based its decision to choose the SafeHA high-availability solution, for its file transfer gateways on three criteria:
- Easy integration and user-friendliness
- Multi-platform support allowing the creation of high-availability AIX and Linux clusters on standard hardware
- Approval by the file transfer gateway provider
Embedded in NAS Gate7, the call agent for ISP dial-up
SafeHA is embedded in NASGate7, a call agent developed by Bull that provides SS7 connectivity to NAS for ISP dial-up. The solution has been operational since January 2000 at Vodafone Airtel, which is the second largest mobile operator in Spain, with more than 6 million subscribers and, since March 2001 at the largest private operator in France. Thus, NASGate7 with SafeHA embedded is a non-stop carrier-class equipment integrated in the telecommunication networks.
Disaster recovery at the Luxembourg airport
SafeHA has been implemented on the aircraft reservation application of Luxair Tours solving two problems: the database availability and the automatic application failover. The solution was implemented simply by installing and configuring the SafeHA software package on two application servers in two remote computer rooms in the Luxembourg airport, with no additional hardware.
at GSIT, the French Interbank Teleclearing System
Hamadi Belhouaïchat, project manager at the GSIT says "Last year the GSIT handled about 6.56 billion of automated banking operations, for an amount of 2478 billion euros. The availability of the automated banking system is critical. The SafeKit solution confers a double advantage: it permits the replication of the data, files and Oracle databases as well as assuring a really high availability of our supervision system. We are looking to prevent all risks and are thinking of separating both servers on two geographically distant sites."
